Viking Ocean Cruises Set For Spring 2015

Viking River Cruises has announced plans to launch an ocean-based cruise line in spring 2015.

The announcement was made by Viking River Cruises’ founder, Torstein Hagen, at a Gala event in Beverley Hills where he outlined the cruise line’s plans to branch out into ocean cruising.

According to Hagen, the build of two new ocean-ready vessels is currently underway at Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard. The first of these will be the 928-guest capacity Viking Star which will launch in 2015, while the second as-yet –unnamed vessel will follow in spring 2016.

Offering guests a choice of 465 elegantly appointed suites and staterooms, Viking Star has been designed with experienced travellers in mind and will offer a variety of sumptuous dining options alongside first class facilities such as a pool with a retractable sunroof, a piano lounge and a glorious three-storey atrium.

Hagen further commented that Viking River Cruises will offer voyages that allow guests to fully-immerse themselves in the cultures and histories of the destinations they visit, stating:

“It is our view that in the race to build bigger ships, many cruise lines have lost sight of the destinations to which they sail. With our new ocean cruises, we are applying the same principles behind our award-winning river cruises to our itinerary and ship design; privileged-access excursions and onboard experiences to make destinations the true focus”.

Those who book a cruise on Viking Star will be delighted to know that it’s an all-inclusive onboard experience, with each fare including a veranda stateroom or suite, selected shore excursions, meals and mealtime beverages such as wine and beer.
