The Grand Reserve - Fine Wines Aboard Hapag-Lloyds EUROPA 2
Experience the supreme pleasure of quality wines on the high seas
Guests who enjoy a cruise on Hapag-Lloyd’s new EUROPA 2 will delight in the high-quality wine program being offered in ship’s Grande Reserve Restaurant.
The Grande Reserve – which is one of seven restaurants on the new EUROPA 2 – offers guests an incredible choice of exquisite wines that can be paired with a range of sumptuous complimentary foods. In addition to this, guests are also able to partake in unique wine tasting sessions – guaranteed to be a memorable occasion for wine enthusiasts and epicures.
The ship’s sommelier, Florian Sender, who is responsible for wine tasting in The Grand Reserve, goes to great lengths to ensure that guests are able to enjoy a wide diversity of the ship’s wine collection:
“In total we have about 19,000 bottles on board with some 450 various cuvees originating from 14 different countries. There is simply no limit to the creativity and new ideas that can come into play in our tastings”.
Every consideration has been made by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises to ensure the wine is the best possible condition for the duration of each voyage. Stored on Deck 2 – where the motion is at minimum – wine connoisseurs will love the variety of wines on EUROPA 2, some of which are very special, distinctive vintages, with Sender commenting:
“The most expensive wine on board the EUROPA 2 is the 2008 Romanée St. Vivant Domaine Romanée Conti from Burgundy, France at € 1,413 per bottle. The price range varies – are very good and tasteful wine is also available on board starting at €20 to €30. When it comes to selecting champagne, in addition to great, well known brands, we also keep those known as “winegrowers’ champagnes” that are only produced in small quantities and that are also distinguished by their high quality.”
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ EUROPA 2 launched in May 2013 and will spend the rest of the year sailing the Mediterranean, Arabia and the Asia.
