Silversea’s New Ship Crowned ‘Silver Galapagos’

Silversea Cruises has announced that their second luxury expedition ship will be christened the Galapagos Explorer and will commence it’s service for the line in 2013.

The new vessel, which is currently sailing as the Galapagos Explorer II, will join the Silver Explorer in offering luxury expedition-style cruises once it has completed a period of major refurbishment in the autumn of next year.

It is set to be the only luxury cruise ship to be offer environmentally responsible ecotourism to the Galapagos Islands and will begin its service for Silversea Cruises in September 2013 with a series of 7-day itineraries around the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

So far there is two separate itineraries being planned, the first of which sails roundtrip from Baltra Island and takes in the western, southern and eastern islands of the region, whilst the second itinerary will focus more on the north eastern, central and south eastern islands.

Guests who sail to the Galapagos Islands on the Silver Galapagos will be treated to a unique selection of shore excursions that have been excellently designed to enhance their experience in the region. Early details suggest that the program includes the opportunity to snorkel in tranquil waters, hike through mangrove forests and volcanic fields and visit the Charles Darwin Research Station.
