Silversea Offer Free Movie Streaming For Mobile Devices
Silversea has launched a new complimentary mobile streaming service for guests sailing on Silver Cloud.
A first for the cruise industry, the new service – which is freely available for those who have Wi-Fi enabled devices - is now available on the 296-capacity Silver Cloud and will offer their guests the opportunity to stream live television and a library of movies directly to their laptop, tablet or smart phone.
Silversea’s chief information officer, Fabio Agostini, believes that the adoption of such highly-innovative technology sees the ultra-luxury cruise line align themselves with the needs of the modern-day cruiser, commenting:
“Smartphones and tablets are a necessity for today’s travellers, who rely on instant access to information. Jason Cohn, our director of infrastructure, and his valuable team worked closely with RedCell Technologies, HMS, and On-Board Movies to develop a streaming media service that would fit seamlessly with our guests’ increasingly technology-driven lifestyle.”
Those who have an upcoming voyage on Silver Cloud but do not have access to a mobile device will be able to rent a tablet on a first-come, first-serve, basis to enjoy the streaming services throughout their sailing.
Silversea has stated that the technology will be available on a further four ships – Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper, Silver Wind and Silver Galapagos – by the end of 2013, and have also announced further plans to introduce a selection of international newspapers to their menu of streaming options in the near future.
