Silver Cloud Refurbishment Completed

Silversea’s Silver Cloud has recently been subject to a two-million dollar refurbishment programme in order to transform her into a ship fit for expedition cruising.

The two-month refurbishment programme, which sought to re-classify Silver Cloud as an ice-class vessel, was overseen by the Palumbo Shipyards in Malta. The changes made include replacing the Silver Cloud’s hull, which was previously bulbous, with the ice-class strengthened hull that is required for ships operating in the polar regions, as well as the installation of new sonar technology in order to aid with underwater detection.

Another change saw Silver Cloud’s windows replaced with new temperature resistant glass panels which are designed to moderate the ship’s internal climate and thus keep the ship’s guests warm and comfortable, regardless of the region Silver Cloud is exploring. She has also been equipped with 16 zodiacs and 12 kayaks for off-ship excursions.

In terms of Silver Cloud’s aesthetic enhancements, Silversea focused on ensuring the ship would continue to maintain the high standard of onboard luxury to which it’s guests are accustomed. These include replicating the Zagara Beauty Spa which has proved such a popular attraction aboard Silversea’s new Silver Muse, and the installation of a unique Photo Studio, where guests can learn more about digital photography on state-of-the-art equipment.

Commenting on Silver Cloud’s refurbishment programme, Silversea’s CEO, Roberto Martinoli said:

“The successful transformation of Silver Cloud into an expedition vessel following the exhaustive work by Palumbo Shipyards is another milestone for Silversea. Silver Cloud was the first ship in the Silversea classic fleet in 1994 and it is with great pride that we welcome her to our expedition fleet alongside Silver Explorer, Silver Discoverer and Silver Galapagos.

The new and improved Silver Cloud has capacity for 254 guests, though this is reduced to 200 guests for sailings in the sailings in the polar regions.
