Set Sail For Africa And The Indian Ocean With Ponant In 2017

“To go where others do not venture”: for its Winter 2016/2017 collection, Ponant continues the philosophy which has shaped the company from the beginning, setting sail for Africa and the Ocean Indian to explore two new destinations in its portfolio of Caribbean, Latin America, Pacific, Asia and Antarctic cruises.

South Africa

In March 2017 an exceptional voyage is on offer from Cape Horn to Cape of Good Hope to discover spectacular scenery and awe-inspiring wildlife, all from the comfort of Ponant’s Le Lyrial.

From the edge of the mythical White Continent, between the Peninsula, Falkland Islands and South Georgia, passengers on Le Lyrial will sail to the Tristan da Cunha archipelago (British Overseas Territories) and on to South Africa, with a post-cruise programme in the Kruger National Park to go in search of the “Big Five”: lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo. A second cruise sails from the country’s “Mother City” Cape Town to Durban, a cosmopolitan seaside town.

Les Îles Éparses, literally “scattered islands”, are four small French islands stretching along the Mozambique Channel which have been a Nature Reserve since 1975. In the last two or three years only about 20 people have visited them. PONANT will be taking passengers there in April 2017 before heading for the volcanic island of Nosy Komba, north of Madagascar, which is famous for its lemur population.

On the final stage of this cruise at the crossroads between Africa and the Indian Ocean, passengers on Le Lyrial will enjoy being chic Robinson Crusoes on Alphonse, La Digue and Victoria in the Seychelles.
