SeaDream Makes History

SeaDream Makes History

On Monday 19th October, the first cruise to depart from the UK since March left the port of Portsmouth bound for Barbados.

Sailing aboard the luxury yacht SeaDream I, a small group of 30 guests were escorted by The Cruise Line’s Managing Director, Robin Maclear, who accompanied the guests on a 5-night sailing to Madeira, Funchal.

Commenting on the cruise, Robin Maclear said:

“We are delighted and proud to be part of this momentous occasion, with SeaDream showing the way in how to operate with strict COVID protocols. With these in place, every guest is tested before embarkation and will receive the results in just 15 minutes. I do not doubt that SeaDream’s winter season in the Caribbean will be a game-changer”.

The landmark event was of particular importance for Portsmouth International Port, which was required to adhere to enhanced protocols, including a reconfigured terminal layout to maximise social distancing and a state-of-the-art camera to check the temperature of passengers, guests, staff, and crew.

Portsmouth International Port’s Head of Operations, Ian Diaper, said:

“It’s testament to everyone’s hard work that SeaDream Yacht Club was confident to use Portsmouth as the first UK port to manage a turnaround call since sailings were suspended. It was great to see a cruise ship in the port once more and pleased to see operations go to plan. We’re experienced at managing passengers in a Covid secure way, with ferry sailings taking place regularly since July following strict protocols. This has given us insight for what’s required, and we’re ready to help the industry recover when cruise returns to its full capacity.”

SeaDream was amongst the first cruise lines to successfully operate sailings post the coronavirus outbreak, with both of their 112-guest yachts cruising coastal Norway throughout the summer. Following the voyage’ success, SeaDream announced SeaDream I would spend the winter months in the Caribbean, with a series of 7 and 14-night cruises sailing round trip from Barbados.

Reservations are now open for SeaDream Yacht Club’s Caribbean season, with fares starting from £2,599 per person for 7-nights. For further information, please contact The Cruise Line on 0800 008 6677 or click here to view the voyages.
