Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Name First Ship
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection announced the name of its inaugural yacht at the recent Luxury Travel Market in Cannes, France.
The 298-guest luxury yacht, which is being built in Spain's Barreras shipyard, has been given the name Azora. The name is derived from the Spanish word for blue ("azul") and is, therefore, in keeping with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's signature colour.
Speaking on behalf of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, CEO Doug Prothero further explained the thinking behind the name:
"We wanted to select a name that embodies the wanderlust of a luxury journey at sea and inspires travellers to dream of their next destination. Azora, which evokes the beauty of the sky and ocean, does both. To the mind, the colour blue also suggests a distinct sense of peace and clarity, emotions we hope to stir in our guests during their journey with us".
In October, Azora touched water for the first time following her official launching ceremony. This maritime tradition is seen as a milestone in the shipbuilding process, with blessings given to the ship and her crew to bring good fortune.
Azora will commence her service for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection in February 2020 with a series of voyages in the Caribbean before heading to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe in the summer months.
