For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the Act), we, The Cruise Line Ltd, are the Data Controller for the www.cruiseline.co.uk website. By making a purchase or submitting your personal data via this website, by telephone or written correspondence, you agree to the storing or processing of it as set out below.
In all cases, we follow the strictest possible procedures regarding how your personal data is stored and used in order to help stop any unauthorised person or organisation accessing it.
Information we collect and why:
There are three main ways in which we collect your personal information:
1. Personal Infomation for marketing use
We collect personal details, such as your name, address, telephone and email address only when you use our website to send us an enquiry, order a brochure, register with us for competitions, events, shows, promotions or sign up to receive email newsletters from us.
The personal data we collect in these instances may be used by us to contact you by post and/or electronic means (e-mail or text message) with information and offers relating to similar products or services about which you enquired or expressed an interest in. Should you provide us with your postal address, we may also contact you if we are holding a travel-related event in your area, or if we will be exhibiting at a travel-related show near you.
We will only do this if you did not opt out of such marketing at the point where we collected your contact details, or if you have subsequently opted out. In the event that you opted out of receiving marketing at the time of making an enquiry or brochure request (or subsequently), these will be the only basis of our correspondence with you.
Opting out of marketing use:
You have the right at any time to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. You can exercise your right to prevent such processing by ticking certain boxes on the forms we use to collect your data.
You can exercise your right to opt out at any time by sending an unsubscribe request to: The Marketing Team, The Cruise Line, Cruise Line House, 109-111 High Street, West Sussex, BN6 9PU. You can also call us on 0800 008 6677.
To opt out of receiving our marketing emails, simply click the link at the bottom of any emails. However, should you wish to opt out of ALL marketing communications, please call us on 0800 008 6677 or write to us at the address above.
2. Personal information for booking and travel arrangements
In order to process your booking and to ensure that your travel arrangements run smoothly and meet your requirements we need to use the information you provide such as name, address, any special needs/dietary requirements etc.
We take full responsibility for ensuring that the correct security measures are in place to protect your information. We must pass the information on to the relevant suppliers of your travel arrangements such as your cruise line, tour operator, airlines, hotels, transport companies etc. The information may also be provided to security or credit checking companies, public authorities such as customs/immigration if required by them, or as required by law.
Information we collect may be 'sensitive personal data' (for example 'special requirements' information relating to disability, diet, health or religion) in which case we will only collect, retain and pass it on with your consent.
3. Automatically collected information:
When you visit our website, we collect and temporarily store certain elements of technical information about your visit and behaviour. To do this, The Cruise Line uses Google Analytics and Cookies.
The information we store can include the type of browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer etc) you used, your operating system (Mac, Windows), the type of device you used (Mobile phone, desktop PC, tablet), the date and time you used our site and the pages you visited.
We store this information so that we can further improve the online experience for our visitors. At no time do we make any attempt to identify you as an individual. Raw data logs are retained temporarily as required for security and site management purposes.
A cookie is a piece of code that is downloaded onto your PC when you visit a website. Certain cookies are necessary in order for you to use The Cruise Line website. These are used 'in-session' each time you visit and then expire when you leave the site. They’re not stored on your computer and they don't contain any personal data. However, you can delete them via your browser if you wish to, but this will restrict the functions that you're able to carry out on our sites.
Session cookies enable you to carry out some essential functions on our website. They also help by minimising the need to transfer information across the internet. They are not stored on your computer and they expire when you terminate your browser session.
Perfomance Tracking Cookies:
These cookies do several jobs relating to the performance of our website: reporting how well our websites suit your needs and helping us to identify any problem areas, and reporting on the efficiency of our advertising.
They enable us to recognise repeat visitors to the site. By matching an anonymous, randomly generated identifier, we're able to record specific browsing information such as how you arrive at the site, the pages you view, options you select, and the path you take through the site. By monitoring this information we’re able to make improvements to our sites.
We use Google Analytics to analyse page use, page interactions and the routes our customers take through our sites. These are known as 'web metrics'.
These cookies don't record any personal information you provide during an on-site purchase or any other process.
We place advertising on the web through our advertising partners and they use targeting cookies to make sure the ads we show you are relevant to you.
We also use social media buttons that allow you to like or share our website with your social networks. For example, the Facebook ‘like’ functions or sharing works using cookies too.
You can accept or block cookies:
We record in-bound and out-bound telephone calls to ensure the quality of service and for training purposes.
Who we pass your data to:
Should you make a booking with The Cruise Line, we may pass on your personal details to the relevant companies or organisations that need them to ensure your cruise holiday or other service or product can be provided. For example, the shipping line, tour operator, airline, hotel or credit-card company. This may include the transfer of information outside the European Economic Area where data protection controls may be different and/or not as strong as those in the United Kingdom.
When you make a booking or enter into a transaction with The Cruise Line Limited (which either acts as ‘agent’ or ‘principal’) you are consenting to our passing on such details. The information may also be provided to security or credit checking companies, public authorities such as customs/immigration if required by them, or as required by law.
We will not however, pass any information onto any person not responsible for part of your travel arrangements. This applies to any sensitive information that you give to us such as details of any disabilities, or dietary/religious requirements. (If we cannot pass this information to the relevant suppliers, whether in the EEA or not, we cannot provide your booking. In making this booking, you consent to this information being passed on to the relevant persons.).
Your tour operator or other principal will pass your information on to their suppliers (once we have provided it). The tour operator or other principal's use of your information is subject to their policy, both in respect of your booking and any future marketing, and is their responsibility. Please ask either us or them for a copy of this policy if you would like to see it.
Your right to access any personal data we hold:
The Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”) gives you the right to check that your personal data is being processed lawfully (“subject access right”). Your subject access right can be exercised in accordance with the Act. Any subject access request must be made in writing to: The Cruise Line, Cruise Line House, 109-111 High Street, Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex, BN6 9PU.
