Performing Artists To Light Up The Stage On Queen Mary 2
London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and performances featuring students and faculty from the Juilliard School will light up Queen Mary 2 during her 10th anniversary celebrations in 2014.
The separate events shall continue until November on Transatlantic crossings sailing from New York to Southampton via Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The graduate company from RADA, one of the most famous acting schools in the world, will present specially edited versions of renowned plays and adaptations of great literary works. Each show lasts approximately one hour and includes classics such as Hamlet, Arabian Nights and Pride and Prejudice. Additionally, interactive workshops will invite guests to explore storytelling in their daily lives. RADA was established in 1904 and has built an outstanding reputation as a world-renowned centre of excellence, offering the best possible facilities, exceptional teaching and strong links with the industries that employ our graduates. RADA’s student population is a diverse community, united by a shared passion for theatre-making.
RADA performances are scheduled during the 21 July, 20 August and 8 October westbound Crossings.
The Juilliard School Jazz Series will offer guests the best in contemporary and classic jazz performed by students and faculty from the prestigious education institution in New York. This exclusive partnership will introduce guests to emerging world-class musical talent. Juilliard was founded in 1905 as the Institute of Musical Art and was later named for Augustus Juilliard, a wealthy textile merchant whose bequest was used to establish the Juilliard Graduate School in 1924. In 1926 it merged with the Institute of Musical Art to become the Juilliard School of Music. In 1968 the name was shortened to The Juilliard School following the addition of the Dance Division and the Drama Division. Juilliard is also home to 253 Steinway Pianos. The largest collection of any institution in the world!
The Juilliard School members will perform during the 28 July, 27 August, 27 September, 28 October and 19 November eastbound Crossings.
