Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd Announces Caribbean Relief Initiative
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, which owns Oceania Cruises, NCL and Regent Seven Seas, aims to raise $2.5 million for hurricane relief.
Working in partnership with All Hands Volunteers, the Hope Starts Here programme has been set up in order to aid humanitarian relief and disaster recovery in the region following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria in September.
Norwegian Cruise Holdings Ltd have pledged to raise at least $2.5 million with the organisation committed to $1.25 million in matching donations from its brands guests, team members and suppliers. A $600,000 donation has already been made in order begin the rebuilding efforts.
To assist in raising the required funds, both Regent Seven Seas and Oceania Cruises recently announced a collection of reduced fares on updated Caribbean itineraries departing this winter. Each booking made on a selection of sailings will see a donation forwarded to the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, President and Chief Executive Office Frank Del Rio said:
“We are heartbroken to see the devastation that Hurricanes Irma and Maria have inflicted on the Florida Keys and several Caribbean islands, where our ships have been visiting since the beginning of our 50 years in business. The Caribbean is part of our family and we are grateful to work with All Hands Volunteers and Happy Hearts Fund to create the Hope Starts Here hurricane relief programme and do our part in giving back to these destinations”.
All Hands Volunteers, which was formed in 2004 following the earthquake and tsunami in the Indian Ocean, have assisted with 79 disasters worldwide and have helped over 500,000 people affected by natural disasters. Their Founder and Chairman, David Campbell, commented on the initiative:
“We are incredibly grateful for this support from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. This funding could not have come at a more crucial time as we work to rebuild communities in the US Virgin Islands and other Caribbean Islands after the destruction brought by recent natural disasters.”
