New Expedition Style Coastal Voyages With Hurtigruten

Hurtigruten, renowned for its extraordinary cruises to Norway, the Arctic, Greenland and Antarctica, has revamped its itineraries to include new expedition style voyages and a la carte dining, as well as adding a number of new excursions and private transfer options.
From 1 January 2016, three of Hurtigruten’s ships - MS Nordnorge, MS Nordkapp and MS Nordlys - will operate along the same coastal route as their sister ships, but will be dedicated to a new concept, combining the best elements of the existing coastal and explorer programmes.
All three ships will offer all the activities and services you would expect on a Hurtigruten voyage but with an expedition team on-board. This team of experts will be offering a series of hikes in selected ports as well as daily lectures about flora and fauna, fishing traditions, polar & Viking history as well as geology, glaciology and climate.

New excursions & pre/post tours

In addition to the hikes being offered on the explorer style voyages, there are three new additional hiking excursions offered on all ships including a ‘Mountain hike with husky’ in Kirkenes, ‘Hiking Mount Fløien’ and ‘Mountain hike in the Lofoten Islands’.
Wannabe Arctic explorers can now extend their trip with a Sami reindeer sleighing trip including an overnight stay in the traditional Sami Lavvo (tent) near Tromso.
Alternatively, those embarking or disembarking in Tromso can also book a full day tour of Sommarøy Island.
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Røros can be enjoyed on a detour from Trondheim to Oslo.
All of the new excursions and pre/post tours are available at an additional cost.
New a la carte dining option
The new a la carte dining option will be available for a small supplement.
With locally sourced ingredients like cod, scallops, crayfish & langoustine, reindeer, tender sirloin of beef and cloudberries, the menus will change with the season and there will be options to suit every taste. The a la carte option is only bookable onboard with supplements from approximately £16.
It is not currently available on MS Lofoten or MS Vesterålen.
