Explore Norway, Iceland, Greenland and Canada aboard Hurtigruten’s MS Spitsbergen.

MS Spitsbergen is one of the latest additions to Hurtigruten’s fleet. Originally constructed in 2009, she was completely rebuilt before entering service for Hurtigruten at the end of summer 2016.

MS Spitsbergen is custom-built for navigating polar waters, although unlike other Hurtigruten ships she is not a working ship, nor does she double-up as a car ferry. As a result of this guests are treated to a premium onboard experience, with spacious accommodations and great facilities.

MS Spitsbergen Cruise Schedule

Taking her name from the Spitsbergen archipelago, it is no surprise that the majority of MS Spitsbergen’s itineraries are dedicated to Norway and the Arctic. These sailings operate roundtrip from Bergen on an 11-night basis and feature stops in popular ports of call such as Alesund, Tromso, Alesund and Kirkenes.

During the summer months, MS Spitsbergen sails west to Iceland and offers a short run of 14 night voyages in the region before heading to Canada and North America for a series of sailings. As summer draws to a close, she returns to Norway via Greenland.

MS Spitsbergen Accommodation

MS Spitsbergen has 243 berths for 335 guests, spread across 4 passenger decks. The accommodation onboard is made of the following categories:

  • Expedition Suites
  • Arctic Superior Cabins
  • Polar Outside Cabins
  • Polar Inside Cabins

The Expedition Suites are the largest grade of accommodation and boast double beds, a separate seating area. Selected suites also feature a private balcony. All of the accommodation options come fully equipped with all you will need throughout the duration of your cruise including an en-suite bathroom/shower and television.

MS Spitsbergen Dining & Facilities

Dining onboard MS Spitsbergen takes place in one of two venues. The first of these, Torget, is the ship’s main dining room and is used for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The second venue is a bistro called Brygga and is perfect if you fancy a more informal bite to eat. Both restaurants serve up delicious cuisine with an authentic Scandinavian influence.

The facilities onboard MS Spitsbergen include the Explorer Lounge, which opens onto the Explorer Deck for fantastic views of the passing landscapes and scenery, a small fitness centre and an outdoor Jacuzzi.
