Le Bougainville is a sister ship to Le Lapérouse and Le Champlain joined Ponant Cruises as the third addition to the line’s Explorer series in 2019. She derives her name from the famous French explorer Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, who discovered Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea in 1768.
In true Ponant Explorer fashion, Le Bougainville combines the spirit of adventure with five-star travel. She offers an exciting collection of Mediterranean sailings in the summer and sails across the Indian Ocean in the winter.

Le Bougainville Staterooms & Suites
The accommodation on Ponant’s Le Bougainville is comprised of six grades of stateroom and suite. They are as follows:

All of the accommodation grades on Le Bougainville have a private balcony and amenities which include en-suite bathroom facilities, climate control, satellite television, a mini-bar, a writing desk and a private safe.
Le Bougainville Dining
There are two principal dining options on Le Bougainville. The ship’s main dining room is a panoramic restaurant that provides seating for all of the ship’s guests. Unlike similar-sized ships, the dining room opens out onto the deck so guests may dine outside should they wish. Breakfast and lunch are generally buffet-style, while evening meals are served course-by-course at your table.
In keeping with the dining experiences offered on other ships in the Ponant fleet, the food served on Le Bougainville is expertly prepared by a team of chefs who source the freshest ingredients to create a menu consisting of French fine-dining classics and regionally-influenced dishes.
There is also an outdoor grill on deck 3 of Le Bougainville, which offers a more informal dining experience than found in the main dining room. Here you can enjoy freshly grilled fish and meat, along with salad and pasta options.
Le Bougainville Public Areas & Facilities
The public areas and facilities onboard Le Bougainville are designed to promote an air of space and intimacy. As such, the main lounge provides ample seating for nearly all of the ship’s guests and offers the perfect environment for relaxing with a good book, catching up with new friends or enjoying some of the ship’s low-key entertainment.
As Le Bougainville is primarily an expedition ship, much of the entertainment onboard is geared towards learning more about the world and the region you are exploring. One of the best examples of this is the ship’s multisensory Blue Eye Lounge. This unique space is designed to give guests a privileged underwater perspective of life below the waves, with whale-eye windows situated and hi-definition cameras positioned below the waterline.
Le Bougainville also features a marina at the rear of the ship which is used in warm weather climates for sunbathing and water sports activities such as paddle-boarding and snorkelling.
