Hurtigruten Launches 'Taste Of The Arctic' Voyage For 2013
Norwegian cruise line Hurtigruten has launched a new voyage ‘Taste of the Arctic’ for 2013.
Sailing during the winter season, the new voyage will take in some of Norway’s most renowned locations including the picturesque Lofoten Islands and the quaint town of Alesdund in a short five-day sailing.
From Bergen, passengers will travel along Norway’s pristine coastline to Tromso in the Arctic Circle, the route will also be available in reverse. This is the first time Hurtigruten has launched a short winter break from Bergen, previous arctic sailings have departed from the more secluded places of Tromso and Kirkenes.
Depending on the route, guests will experience many of the highlights that are part of the 12-day ‘Classic Round Voyage’ from Bergen to Kirkenes including the Seven Sisters Mountains, the Lofoten Islands, Alesund and Trondheim. Hurtigruten’s adventurous excursions will also be available including snowmobiling, dog sledding and a Northern Lights safari by cable car.
Additionally, passengers with an interest in bird watching can enjoy one of Hurtigruten's two new coastal wildlife excursions for 2013. The new ‘Birds of the Arctic’ excursions will be available on the ‘Classic Round Voyage’ and the seven-day ‘Classic Voyage North.’ Passengers on the excursions will enjoy a rib expedition to Runde Bird Island, the home to Scandinavia’s largest sea bird colony with over 500,000 nesting. Here they will have the chance to view many coastal birds including the Atlantic puffins, guillemots and blacklegged kittiwakes.
