Hapag-Lloyd Cruises Name New Expedition Ships
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have announced the arrival of two new expedition ships; HANSEATIC Nature and HANSEATIC Inspiration.
Set to be delivered in 2019, the ships are intended to represent a new era for Hapag-Lloyd’s cruise business and will offer expedition-style cruises in remote parts of South and Central America as well as voyages in Antarctica.
The new ships will be identical in build and have capacity for 230 guests (199 for Antarctic voyages) spread across seven passenger decks. They will carry 16 Zodiacs to allow guests easy access to shore in remote areas and will both be certified PC6 vessels which is the highest ice-rating for a passenger ship.
The design concepts for HANSEATIC Nature and HANSEATIC Inspiration will be based around the notion of taking guests as close to nature as possible. This idea will not only be factored into the interior design aspect of the ships but also allow for some fantastic features – including extendible glass balconies which are intended to give guests the feeling of ‘floating over the ocean’ while the ships cruise towards their next port of call.
Commenting on the new arrivals, Hapag-Lloyd’s CEO Karl J. Pojer said:
”By virtue of the comfort and luxuriousness of our state-of-the-art new vessels, we will appeal to even more customers in the luxury segment in future. At the same time, authentic, natural spectacles that convey the feeling of a personal expedition have always been the basis for our decision-making.”
HANSEATIC Nature is set for launch in April 2019 with HANSEATIC Inspiration to follow in October 2019.
