Duchess Of Cambridge To Name New Princess ship
Duchess announced as Godmother to the Royal Princess
8It has been announced that the Duchess of Cambridge will officially name Princess Cruises’ new cruise ship, the Royal Princess.
The naming ceremony for the 3600-guest capacity Royal Princess is set to take place in Southampton on 13th June 2013. The Duchess of Cambridge -who will be over 8 months pregnant at the time of the ceremony - will act as Godmother to the Royal Princess and will enjoy a tour of the new vessel after partaking in the traditional act of smashing a glass bottle on the ship’s hull.
Following the event, Royal Princess will depart the UK for two preview cruises before embarking on her maiden voyage of the Mediterranean.
Speaking on behalf of Princess Cruises, Alan Buckelew, the line’s CEO said:
“It is a great honour for Princess Cruises that the Duchess of Cambridge has accepted our invitation to become godmother to the Royal Princess. We are delighted that the Duchess will launch our new ship and I can think of no better way to celebrate our company’s British heritage and commitment to the country”.
Royal Princess will be the latest edition to the Princess Cruises’ fleet and will feature a wide variety of facilities and amenities, including a glass-bottomed walkway that juts out over the edge of the ship. She will also house a special chef’s dining table, private pool-side cabanas, and ‘the largest pastry shop at sea’.
