Dame Shirley Bassey names P&O's Adonia

Britain's much loved performer, Dame Shirley Bassey DBE, renamed P&O's Adonia this month at a ceremony at Southampton’s Mayflower Terminal. Assisted by master of ceremonies, Downtown Abbey actor, Hugh Bonneville, Dame Shirley released Hush Heath Balfour rose wine as she announced to 500 guests “I name this ship Adonia, may God bless her and all who sail her”. Celebrations continued with afternoon tea and a musical theme of Dame Shirley’s iconic songs “Goldfinger” and “Big Spender.”

P&O Cruises managing director, Carol Marlow expressed her joy of having Dame Shirley as Adonias Godmother as stating, “Dame Shirley is Britain’s most successful female artiste ever, a national treasure who defines the word ‘superstar’ and she is now one of our most celebrated godmothers. With Shirley’s blessing I am sure Adonia will have a long and illustrious time with P&O Cruises and become a favourite within the fleet as she charms all those who sail on her.”

Adonia is the newest addition to P&Os fleet. It carries just 710 passengers yet offers a wide range of onboard entertainment and port stops inaccessible to much larger vessels. A cruise ship exclusively for adults, Adonia offers guests an intimate and refined cruising environment.
