Cunard Ship To Be Based In Melbourne 2019/20
Cunard has announced that the Queen Elizabeth will be based in Melbourne for Australia’s 2019/20 summer season.
The 2,062 capacity ship, which entered service for Cunard in 2010, will spend just over 100 days operating out of Melbourne, where she will be based between December 2019 and March 2020.
Cunard’s decision to use Melbourne, rather than Sydney, as Queen Elizabeth’s homeport is due to a number reasons, which include Sydney’s ongoing struggle with the large volume of cruise traffic and a desire to capitalise on Melbourne’s ever-increasing profile as a cruise hub. In fact the Queen Elizabeth will enjoy 54 days in the region in late 2018.
In 2019/20 during her time on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Queen Elizabeth will operate a series of interesting itineraries including six Melbourne round-trip cruises, one of which coincides with the festive period and gives guests the opportunity to enjoy New Years Eve in Auckland Harbour.
Commenting on the decision to base Queen Elizabeth in Melbourne, Cunard’s Senior Vice President, Simon Palethorpe said:
“Over the past few years we’ve seen unprecedented growth in demand for the Cunard experience in Australia, so it made sense for us to invest further in the market and extend the sailing season of Queen Elizabeth even more. Our new 2019/20 summer season will not only feature more cruises, it will also offer some exciting new itinerary options which we hope will entice even more Australians to experience Cunard’s legendary service and style.”.
It is estimated that Queen Elizabeth’s presence in Melbourne will see the local economy benefit by approximately $7 million.
Cunard’s 2019/20 season will officially go on sale on 20th March 2018. If you would like further information regarding any of the sailings, or should you wish to make an enquiry, please call our Voyage Consultants on 0800 008 6677.
