Cunard Announces The Launch Of The Verandah Restaurant Aboard Queen Mary 2

Cunard has announced the launch of the Verandah restaurant onboard its flagship, Queen Mary 2, to feature in June 2016, exactly 80 years after the first Cunard Verandah Grill went to sea on Queen Mary in 1936.

The Verandah, a favourite among guests onboard Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, will replace the Todd English restaurant onboard Queen Mary 2 and will evoke the special personality and flavour of French regional cooking with seasonal influences.

Set within a light and elegant dining room, impeccable service with attention to every detail will make this an unforgettable dining experience, available at a surcharge for lunch and dinner. A bar will also be available for pre- and post-meal drinks.

The original Verandah Grills were exclusively reserved for First Class guests and were considered the most exclusive dining rooms at sea, on par with esteemed private clubs in London, New York and Paris. The restaurants offered a truly exclusive experience, as well as extra privacy for the rich and famous, including frequent Hollywood stars and royal visitors such as: Winston Churchill, Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor.

This news follows Cunard’s previous announcements that Queen Mary 2 would also see the introduction of the Carinthia Lounge during her refurbishment and a redesign of the Kings Court buffet area. The Carinthia Lounge will feature a dedicated patisserie and an afternoon tea service, with the option of a special Veuve Cliquot Champagne Afternoon Tea experience. When the sun sets, the atmosphere will evolve into an inviting evening spot with premium wine, small plates and relaxed entertainment.

Cunard chefs will take centre stage in the reimagined Kings Court as they guide guests through cooking demonstrations highlighting the remastered menus and the fresh, high quality ingredients used onboard. Various food journeys will be rotated throughout the dining experience, from enticing hot and cold buffet options to light snacks, afternoon treats and alternative evening dining cuisines such as Indian, Italian, Pan Asian, and Tex Mex.
