Crystal Add New European Ports This Summer

Luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises has added seven new European ports to its summer voyages this year.

Scenic vistas, historic monuments and quaint towns are all included amongst the seven new European port-of calls which will be visited by Crystal for the first time this year. Guests will also be able to enjoy some unique shore excursions, such as a visit to Salvador Dali’s home, trekking the mountains of Corsica and bird-watching off the Icelandic island of Heimaey.

New Ports include:

Klaipeda: The third-largest city in Lithuania, Klaipeda offers visitors metropolitan architecture and the impressive Curonian Spit, a 98km sand-dune. Crystal Adventures include a visit to the Hill of Witches Sculpture Park, birdwatching at the Vente Cape ornithological station or bike riding through the Old Town.

Heimaey: An Icelandic island and the largest in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, Heimaey is home to just 4,500 people but 8 million puffins. Crystal Adventures include exploring caves and puffin colonies by RIB boat or watching locals rope-swing over the cliffs to collect bird eggs.

Saint-Jean-de-Lux: Situated to the East of Bay of Biscay, Saint-Jean-de Lux is a coastal gem with cobblestoned lanes that lead to St. Jean Baptist, the church where Louis XIV married Spain’s Marie Therese in 1660. Crystal Adventures include a pilgrimage to Lourdes, a look at Balenciaga’s haute couture or a day trip to San Sebastian, Hemingway’s Pamplona or Biarritz.

Leknes: Situated on the Lofoten archipelago, this small town is surrounded by stunning natural scenes of snow-capped mountains and soaring cliffs. Crystal Adventures include viewing frozen art at an ice bar/gallery, spotting sea eagles on safari or learning Scandinavia’s rich history at Borg’s Viking Museum.

Palamos: This 800-year-old fishing village off Costa Brava is famous for its prawns, watersports, and the best location for people-watching in the Mediterranean. Crystal Adventures include a tour around gothic Girona by Segway, a visit to Salvador Dali’s home or a meal inspired by his favourite dishes, or a day trip to Barcelona for an exclusive tour of Barca Team’s Club Stadium.

Bonifacio: Situated on the island of Corsica, this small French town teeters on the edge of a steep limestone cliff. Visitors come to the town for its Napoleonic history and chic french atmosphere. Crystal Adventures include a canoe trip along the coast or trekking the cliffside paths which offer gorgeous views and the chance to spot wildlife.

Akureyri: The second largest city in Iceland, Akureyri offers a hip cultural scene surrounded by picturesque gardens and snowcapped mountains. Crystal Adventures include whale-watching expeditions, a visit to the “Waterfall of the Gods” or a flight see over Eyjafjordur to Grimsey Island.
