Cruising the Indian Ocean

Every ocean offers its own adventuring aspect and when it comes to the Indian Ocean there is a breathtaking sweep of opportunity from India to the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The immense mixture of ages-old culture, amazing wildlife, remote hideaways, lush landscapes and tropical splendour, where turquoise waves lap white-sand beaches makes for a heady cocktail of adventure cruising and whilst many of the names may not be well known, you can be sure of experiences and encounters which are 100 per cent genuine and enthralling.

Start in India itself, from the captivating port of Cochin, and head out into the extraordinary beauty of the Lakshadweep Islands, a coral atoll formation of 36 islets totalling just 36sq km and offering some of the most immaculate beaches anywhere in the world.

Head south and you will discover the Maldives, a collection of a thousand Robinson Crusoe islands boasting massive lagoons, dazzling underwater coral gardens and rich sealife, while Sri Lanka is the gateway to a rich variety of excursions.

From the principal port of Colombo, you can explore inland and discover a historical journey of unrivalled proportions, with the sacred Buddhist city of Kandy leading the way along with jeep safaris, white-water rafting and whale-watching for the perfect combination of culture and wildlife.

There is no better way to discover this magnificent landscape than with SeaVenture Cruises, a new adventure cruise company whose knowledge of the Indian Ocean and its myriad of islands is unrivalled by any other. Based in Switzerland, SeaVenture Cruises will begin their sailings to this unique region in late 2010. Their first ship is the highly-acclaimed Le Diamant, the ex-Radisson vessel (formerly known as Song of Flower) and has been chartered on a long-time basis.

Le Diamant is as informal and cultivating as cruising gets, affording a level of quiet sophistication and modish ocean-style in effortless fashion. Carrying just 226 passengers but featuring the full array of onboard amenities, Le Diamant is comfortably the most luxurious vessel plying these waters, with first-class cuisine and an upscale service that leaves nothing to chance.

Relax and be enchanted!
