Costa Helps Protect Marine Life
Costa Cruises has joined with partner WWF Italy to protect marine life and especially monitor the movement of whales using expert equipment.
REPCET has been installed on the Costa Pacifica cruise ship, which is the first cruise ship to use equipment of its kind. The programme will use a network of satellites and sighting reports from other ships to predict the movement of whales and therefore prevent any harm to the animals.
Costa Pacifica will soon also be used to take a number of atmospheric measurements in the Mediterranean. This will be done together with the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission to monitor climate change in the area. One process will use weather balloons to measure the ozone concentration at different heights.
