Construction of Hapag-Lloyd's MS EUROPA 2 Begins

The construction of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' MS EUROPA 2 began last week on 5th September. The event was marked with a steel cutting ceremony and Managing Director of Hapag Lloyd, Sebastian Ahrens, gave the official start signal, stating;

“After an intense planning stage, we are very pleased to be taking this decisive step towards the extension of our fleet with the first steel cut. “

MS EUROPA 2 is currently being built at the STX shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France with completion scheduled for spring 2013. The ship will be a new addition to Hapag-Lloyds luxury segment and will match the high standards of their current ship EUROPA, the only cruise ship awarded the highest five-star plus rating by the Belitz Cruise Guide.
MS EUROPA 2 is to hold 258 suites across eleven decks. With a maximum capacity of just 516, Hapag-Lloyds boasts more space per guest than any other ship in the cruise industry. Accommodation choice will include Spa Suites, Penthouse Suites and all veranda suites will have a minimum space of 301 square feet. Guests will have the choice of seven restaurants including two lounges, four bars and a sushi bar. A varied choice of onboard entertainment, a spa and a fitness centre.
