Celebrity Cruises to rescue holiday makers

Celebrity Cruises have offered the use of their new ship, Celebrity Eclipse, to assist with transporting hundreds of holidaymakers stranded due to the volcanic ash cloud currently disrupting many of Europe's flight programs. Celebrity Cruises will liaise with the UK's major tour operators so that Eclipse can collect delayed holidaymakers, some of whom who have been stranded for the last 7 days.

With a capacity of just under 3000, the Eclipse will leave Southampton and head to Bilbao where it will collect the holidaymakers desperate to return to the UK and have them home by Friday evening.

Celebrity Cruises had originally intended to hold a launch party for the Eclipse over the next couple of nights, however, Celebrity Cruises Chairman, Richard Fain said: “The events affecting air travel are completely unprecedented, and it is in times like these that the global travel industry needs to pull together. Collecting stranded British and Irish holidaymakers is a fitting first mission for new ship Celebrity Eclipse – what better way for a ship dedicated to the UK to mark her arrival?”
