Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, situated on either side of the Danube. The west bank town (Buda and Obuda) was united with the east bank town (Pest) in November 1873. It is arguably one of the most beautiful of European cities and its extensive World Heritage Sites include the Buda Castle quarter and the Danube embankments. Other sites of special interest are the largest synagogue in Europe and the largest medicinal baths and thermal water cave system in Europe. It was rated top Central/E. European city by 'The Economist' on their quality of life index in 2009 and 2010.
