I have to say that this was the best holiday my wife and I have ever had. This was our second cruise (having tried Costa Fortuna last year). We had certaining enjoyed the cruising lifestyle with Costa but thought we would prefer a primarily English speaking set-up. We liked the idea of the Carnival 'Fun Ship' approach - especially the focus on evening entertainment. This proved to be one of the highlights - the shows were excellent. I even enjoyed the show based on contributions from guests in the guise of Elvis, Elton, Brittany etc - this was a surprise as I cringe at karaoke type shows as a rule. The professionals were excelent throughout - singers, dancers and comedians provided fun nearly every night.
The itinerary was the prime reason we chose the cruise as it included Naples, Venice, Dubrovnik, Messina, Barcelona, Cannes and Livorno. Something I would recommend to any cruise lover would be to include Venice - sailing past the Grand Canal on a large ship provides the most amazing views of the worlds best city. The only down side of this visit was being docked some distance from St. Marks and there was no pre-arranged transport to the centre. The directions and maps Carnival provided for each port were generally poor.
Food on board was usually good without reaching the heights and there was always planty available. I never expected to want to eat pizza or burger at 1:00 am - but I did manage it (frequently).
A simple measure of holiday enjoyment is - would I book with the company again? The answer is a definite 'yes'.
