Destinations - Mediterranean - Seville

One of Spain’s most glorious cities, Seville lies inland, along the banks of the Rio Guadalquivir. A vital, cosmopolitan town, the city overflows with incredible architecture, museums, terrific food and an ambiance that exudes romance.Maybe it’s the fragrant orange trees, the flamenco dancers, the gypsies or the bullfights! Two of the most impressive sights are the Alcázar, built by Pedro the Cruel, and the splendid Cathedral, a feast for the eyes inside and out. The elegant 300-foot high Giralda tower, a Seville landmark, was begun in 1184. It is a wonderful example of Islamic design. The belfry and 25 bells were added in 1565.Interior ramps to the top of the tower offer spectacular views over Seville. Enjoy the splendid parks and magnificent formal gardens or shop for fine leather goods, perhaps a guitar or even a handmade mantilla as a very special souvenir.
