Russe, an industrial city with largest river port of the country, was once the garrison of the Roman Danube fleet. In 1866, the first railway of the Ottoman Empire to Varna was inaugurated here.
Cerven is a beautifully city located on a hill surrounded by fortress walls on the Cherni Lom River. The medieval city has several churches featuring Tirnovo architecture, some with well preserved wall paintings of the 14th century. You will continue to the 16th century Basarbovo Monastery, an imposing structure located on a mountain peak.
