Gdynia is the Baltic port for the old Hanseatic city of Gdansk. In 1922 it was only a tiny fishing village, but by 1939 it had grown into one of the biggest ports on the Baltic. Gdynia is the home port of the Polish navy and the town contains a naval museum and several maritime schools.
