Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, is located at the congruence of the Danube and the Save River. It is a city with a vivid history. Your first point of interest is the fortress Kalemegdan (1717-1739) situated in the most popular park of Belgrade. During an one-hour tour, you see the military museum which houses souvenirs of both Balkan and World Wars, the Turkish Bath House (Amam) from the 18th century, the Gate of the Emperor Karl VI., also called Prinz-Eugen-Gate and the victory memorial, a victory messenger carrying a falcon set on a Doric column. Afterwards, a tour through the city is planned. In the course of the next hour you become acquainted with sights such as the country castle of Princess Ljubica, built in Oriental-Balkan style with western influences and which formerly held the Serbian state treasury. You see the National Museum, the parliament, the chic suburb of Topcider, the church of St. Sava and Terezije Square that was named after the old city scale which was set up here in former times. The tour is interrupted for a 30-minute tour of the cathedral. The cathedral, that was dedicated to the archangel Michael, houses the tombs of the two Serbian princes Milos and Mihajlo. It is a mixture of Baroque and Classicist elements with a splendid wall of icons. Your last stop is in the city center at the Square of the Republic from where you can see the large pedestrian zone. Refreshments are served in a hotel close by before you drive back to the vessel.
