Korea Cruises

The Cruise Line has teamed up with the Korean Tourist Board to bring you a great selection of Korea cruises. Throughout 2012 there will be a variety of great lines offering cruises to South Korea, including Princess Cruises, Silversea and Royal Caribbean.

Korea is a fantastic stop-off on any cruise itinerary, offering a blend of ultra-modern buildings and architecture yet still resplendent with a respect for tradition and heritage that makes the temples, fortresses and marketplaces such fascinating places to visit.

The most popular ports of call in South Korea are Incheon (also referred to as Seoul on cruise itineraries) and Busan. Incheon is just an hour outside Seoul and originally opened as a port in 1883. Its position helped it to flourish owing to its trade with China and the sea links provided to the rest of the world. Easily reached from Incheon is Seoul, Korea’s capital city and financial centre. Here the ultra modern and high tech exist comfortably side by side with the ancient and traditional. A must see city!

Busan
is South Korea’s second largest city and is due to be visited by cruise lines including Holland America, Princess Cruises and Silversea Cruises in 2012. In contrast to Busan’s modern feel is Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, perched on cliffs overlooking the sea, the tranquility and Buddhist calm of 6th Century Beomeosa Temple with its mountain backdrop and Geumjeong Fortress. A somber but beautiful place to visit is The United Nations Cemetery. Here soldiers that were killed from the 16 countries that made up the UN force to defend Korea are buried. It is the only UN memorial park in the world. Lovers of retail therapy will also be happy to note that Pusan is also home to the world’s largest department store; the Shinsegae Centum City.

You will also find that some cruise lines Korean ports other than Incheon and Busan. One such port is the island of Jeju. Situated off the southern most tip of the Korean Peninsula, Jeju was created as a result of five massive volcanic eruptions over one million years ago. These eruptions left a stunning landscape and natural formations that has led to 10% of Jeju being listed as a UNESCO Natural Heritage site.
