Papua New Guinea with Noble Caledonia in 2014

Legends of Papua New Guinea with Noble Caledonia

Every now and then I am alerted to a cruise itinerary that really captures my imagination.  Up until now, the last voyage to do so was Silversea’s Cuba cruise on Silver Explorer (which you can read here).  However, this morning – while attempting to shrug off the early morning blues with a VERY strong cup of coffee – I was checking my emails and found that Noble Caledonia had announced a selection of new cruise-tours for 2014/15.

One of the voyages, titled ‘Legends of Papua New Guinea‘, immediately stood out and I would like a few minutes of your time to explain why I think this voyage should be high on your to-do list if you are looking for an exciting, expedition-led voyage in 2014.

Departing on the 29th March 2014 and sailing on Noble Caledonia’s MS Caledonian Sky, the itinerary is a comprehensive 18 night tour of Papua New Guinea and the region’s surrounding islands.  Along the way there are opportunities to visit the stunning D’Entrecasteaux Islands, meet the local villagers who reside on the Trobriand Islands and take a trip to the bunker on Rabaul from where Admiral Yamamoto led Japan’s South Pacific campaign in the early 1940s.

Travel in Papua New Guinea can often be challenging and the region’s lack of tourist-facing infrastructure means that planning an all-encompassing trip such as this can border on the impossible.  However, the voyage planners at Noble Caledonia are masters at putting together expertly-crafted cruise-tour itineraries – so if you have ever wanted to visit Papua New Guinea but are worried about getting about once you are there, this voyage could be the perfect solution.

3 Reasons to consider Noble Caledonia’s Papua New Guinea voyage:

It’s Papua New Guinea!  Immersive itineraries like this are not the norm for Papua New Guinea and I am of the opinion that it is a ‘bucket-list’ destination in every sense.  If you’re seeking a voyage that undoubtedly has that “once-in-a-lifetime” feel, then this cruise really will take some beating.

Wildlife!  This voyage promises to be a real treat for wildlife enthusiasts.  Home to over 190 species of mammal and a dazzling myriad of birds, lizards and fish, Papua New Guinea is a richly populated with wildlife. If you need more evidence, simply Google “Wildlife in Papua New Guinea” and click the images tab – incredible, isn’t it?

It includes a ‘lodge experience’!  Not only does this splendid itinerary take you by sea to some of Papua New Guinea’s most alluring islands, but it also includes a 3 night pre-cruise  ‘lodge experience’.  Choose between the Ambua Lodge in the Southern Highlands Province and the Rondon Ridge Lodge in the Western Highlands Province and enjoy a comfortable stay in one of two glorious settings, each with their own distinctive charm and both offering awe-inspiring views and comfortable facilities.
