Viking plan for $250 million development

Viking River Cruises are planning to increase their fleet to 26 ships in the next 3 years; this means adding 8 new ships. They also plan to refurbish 2 of their existing vessels, the Viking Pakhomo and the Viking Schumann. In total this development will increase Vikings capacity by 40%.

The first new ship to set sail will be the Viking Prestige in 2011 and will be based in Europe. The Prestige is due to be another ‘green’ cruise ship alongside the existing Viking Legend, providing a smoother and quieter cruise to other river cruise vessels.

Following the Viking Prestige will be the Viking Emerald due to be sailing China’s Yangtze River in 2011
