Ships divert due to Hurricane Tomas

Cruise ships scheduled to visit the island of St Lucia have been diverted due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Tomas. Damage to buildings and roads have caused the island to be unsafe for visitors and the Saint Lucia Tourist Board stated that the Category 1 storm has caused a temporary loss of utility services.

The tropical storm was originally classed as a Hurricane, although it has now been downgraded. Visitors of the island have been offered help by the government, airlifts from airports and transfers have been organised enabling tourists to leave the island.

The country is expected to get back to normal by the 12th November, allowing cruises to return to their scheduled itineraries.
