S/V Noorderlicht is a striking, two-mastered schooner that was built in 1910 and offers cabins for 20 guests and 5 crew members. She benefitted from a complete re-fit in 1991 and is primed to offer a unique expedition experience in Spitsbergen, Norway.
Life onboard S/V Noorderlicht
S/V Noorderlicht offers an authentic expedition experience and as such the onboard facilities are basic. However, she is a comfortable ship and offers a suitable base for relaxation at the end of each days exploration.
Dining takes place in the mess room and the meals are prepared by the ship's sole chef. The accommodation is comprised of ten cabins with each one equipped with a basin, writing desk and a storage cupboard. The toilet and showering facilities are shared between guests.
There is no entertainment programme aboard MV Noorderlicht, as guests are encouraged to leave the ship and explore as much as the conditions will allow. The range and in-depth nature of the excursions offered by Oceanwide Expeditions ensure that you will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience cruising the remote islands of the Arctic Circle.
S/V Noorderlicht Itineraries
S/V Nooderlicht offers itineraries in the Arctic that primarily focus on the highlights of Spitsbergen and the Lofoten Islands. Her small size enables her to explore the region in great depth and therefore means you will enjoy a voyage accentuated by stops in many off-the-beaten-track gems, including a 17th centuary whaling station on the island of Smeerenburg, and Colesbukta, which is home to an adandoned Russian coal-mining settlement.
The jewel in S/V Noorderlicht's crown are her Aurora Borealis itineraries. Operating in the late summer and early autumn, these voyages are a must for anyone wishing to witness the awe-inspiring Northern Lights on a cruise.
