Royal Caribbean to increase departures from Spain

Royal Caribbean International Cruises has announced that in 2011 five of their ships will sail from Barcelona, Malaga and Palma in Mallorca, having seen Spain rise to being the third most popular departure point for cruises in 2010.

Dominic Paul, Managing Director for RCI’s UK and Irish operations, commented that “Barcelona has long been a popular homeport for Royal Caribbean International and we have enjoyed significant growth in the UK for take up of cruises offered from Malaga since 2009”.

It is thought that 40% of the 300,000 cruisers that sailed from Malaga in 2010 originated from the UK or Ireland, with the cruise often being ‘added-on’ as part of a longer flight/hotel stay package, often in the Costa Del Sol region.
