P&O Cruises – Shirley Bassey Named Adonia’s Godmother

P&O Cruises has announced that legendary songstress Dame Shirley Bassey is to be named Godmother of their latest cruise ship, Adonia.

The world-famous performer, whose biggest hit’s include Goldfinger and Big Spender, will be formerly announced as the ship’s official Godmother during the official ceremony which is due to take place in Southampton on 21st May 2011. Commenting on the match-up between the cruise line and the singer, Carol Marlow, P&O’s Managing Director, stated:

“Dame Shirley is Britain’s most successful female artiste ever, a national treasure who defines the word ‘superstar’. We are Britain’s favourite cruise line and can trace our British history back longer than any other line. It’s a perfect match and I am sure on our naming day she will need no excuse to get the party started!”

Just 500 guests have been invited to the naming ceremony, which will be held on the ship’s top deck. The next day, Adonia will embark on her Maiden Voyage of the Western Mediterranean.

Adonia, which was built in 2001, will be P&O Cruises smallest ship with a passenger capacity of just 710. Its small size means that Adonia will offer cruisers the opportunity to explore small ports that are inaccessible to larger vessels, whilst boasting all the amenities that are expected on a P&O cruise ship.
