Nijmegen Cruises
In the eastern Netherlands near the German border, Nijmegen celebrated its 2000th birthday in 2005 and is said to be the oldest city in the Netherlands. Although very heavily bombed by the Americans in February 1944, and then by the Germans in September 1944, a few Roman relics are still visable as well as a late 18th Century Carolingian chapel, 15th Century town hall and the 13th Century church of St. Steven's. Every July the city celebrates its liberation from German occupation with an international four day festival.
