A string of small French islands near Guadeloupe, the ‘saints' was the scene of a famous naval battle between England and France in the eighteenth century. Only two of the islands are inhabited- Terre de Bas and Terre de Haut both boast fine beaches and the latter has the brooding Fort Napoleon.
