Hope Bay Cruises
Possibly the biggest footnote in Hope Bay ’s history is the fact that in 1978 the first child to be born in Antarctica was born there. There is a large military presence around the bay, and the community that now inhabits Hope Bay have brought a touch of modernism to the area; building a post office, school and electing a mayor.
Visitors to Hope Bay are still able to see the abandoned ruins of Nordenskjold expedition base, a site that dates back to 1903 when it was abandoned amid brutal storms.
