Surrounded by steep hills and tropical rain forest, Golfito has a spectacular sheltered position on the eastern side of the Golfo Dulce on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The town was founded in the 1930's as a banana port and you will see evidence of this in the remaining reduced trade and banana company manager homes in the American zone.
