Asia is brimming with opportunities and offers something for every type of traveller – especially those who wish to visit on a cruise.
There are world famous sights to see, incredible shopping to be had and some of the most amazing views your eyes shall ever look upon on a cruise to Asia.
Luxury cruises to this region used to be reserved for sections of world cruises, but as our tastes and desires for world travel advance, we are seeing more cruise lines adding Asia and the Indian Ocean to their shorter itinerary options.
Asia and Indian Ocean destinations include: China, Japan, Seychelles, Thailand, Singapore, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Hong Kong Cruises
One of the most vibrant city’s on the planet, Hong Kong is one place that could not leave you disappointed. In fact it has so much to offer it can be difficult knowing where to begin.
One of the most famous places to visit here, however, is Victoria Peak. A mountain situated in the western half of Hong Kong Island, it offers incredible views across Victoria Harbour, Lamma Island and the other surrounding islands from its many beautiful public parks. It is also known as Mount Austin.
For those of you that would like to get back to nature then a visit to Lamma Island should be on your list. Also known as Pok Liu Chau, Lamma Island is the third largest island in Hong Kong and offers peace away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Buildings higher than three storeys are prohibited and the main mode of transport on the island is by bicycle or foot.
Other places of interest include: Man Mo Temple, Lantau Island, Madame Tussauds, Ten Thousand Buddha’s Monastery, Hong Kong Museum of Art and Central Plaza.
Halong Bay, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City await your arrival in Vietnam. Halong Bay is your gateway to the city of Hanoi, a city that keeps the rich history of Vietnam alive whilst living alongside the hustle and bustle of today’s more modern cultures. Certainly worth a visit, but if you want something more relaxed, then simply sit back and enjoy the peace of Halong Bay.
Nha Trang offers superb beaches, ones you may find difficult to tear yourself away from. If you do manage to escape the beauty of the coastline then there is much to be explored in Nha Trang including colourful markets, delicious local cuisine and the Towers of Po Nagar.
Ho Chi Minh City is alive with history and its museums are certainly worth a peek. The Cu Chi tunnels are also very popular with tourists. The tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War and were the Viet Cong’s base of operations for the Tet Offensive in 1968.
You could refer to Mauritius as paradise, but even that word would not suffice or give a true idea of the beauty here. Relaxation and pampering are on the menu as you sit back and enjoy some of the best coastlines in the world. The number of visitors to the island is actually restricted in order to maintain the islands natural beauty and with buildings by law, not allowed to rise higher than the top of the indigenous palm trees, your views too shall be unspoilt.
If you would prefer to venture and explore then places worth visiting include Black River Gorges National Park, Tamarind Falls, Blue Penny Museum and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden.
Sri Lanka Cruises
Sri Lanka is another destination that has something to offer everyone. Beautiful sandy beaches are never far away and a rich and varied culture are just a stone’s throw from them.
The Dambulla Cave Temple is the country’s biggest tourist attraction and it is also a world heritage site. The Golden Temple of Dambulla, as it is also known, is the largest and best preserved cave temple in all of Sri Lanka. Inside you will find over 150 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan Kings and 4 statues of Gods and Goddesses including the Hindu god Ganesh. It is one of those places that has to be seen to be believed and we are sure you will leave mesmerized.
Other attractions include: Adam’s Peak, a mountain known for the Sri Pada (ancient footprint) at its summit which is said to be the footprint of the Buddha. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Horton Plains National Park, Sigiriya and Yala National Park.
