Alaska Adventure Cruises

American’s 49th state is an absolute wonderland of almost everything that goes into a memorable cruise – a traveller’s delight of amazing sights, scenery, vibrant wildlife, ancient cultures, friendly folk and nature – LOTS of nature.

For this is where you can enjoy huge great helpings of rich, raw nature at its very best, from the towering mountains which form much of the backdrop to the waters that seemingly teem with whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, salmon and sea otters.

With much of south-east Alaska accessible only by sea, a cruise is the ideal way to take in the horizon-to-horizon majesty of the region, sailing either from San Francisco in California, Vancouver in Canada or Seward near Anchorage; or round-trip from rugged state capital Juneau.

Other ports of call include the ‘totem pole capital’ of Ketchikan, where the native Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures are more than 800 years old; the former Russian outpost of Sitka; frontier gold-mining town Skagway; and tiny, isolated Wrangell.

Fjords and glaciers are the other hallmark of an Alaskan voyage, with Glacier Bay and Hubbard offering amazing ice-laden views while the likes of Tracy Arm and Misty Fjords feature the ‘Norway of the West’ canyons, cliff-faces and cascading waterfalls.

But wherever you voyage through this scintillating panorama, from the major ports to little-seen bays and coves, there are always attention-grabbing charms waiting around the next corner and, ultimately, it is hard to take your eyes off this ever-moving visual feast that is sure to enchant and enthrall in equal measure.
